Standing With Redbridge, Thoughts from a Council Candidate

I was born and raised in Mayfield. I know its streets, its schools, its parks, and the people who make this community what it is. I have seen families support each other, neighbours step up when needed, and young people full of potential. I also know what it feels like when decisions are made about your community without listening to the people who live here. That is why I am standing to represent Mayfield in the upcoming local elections on May 7th.

Supporting Families with SEND

One of the issues closest to my heart is SEND, special educational needs and disabilities. My nephew is a SEND child, so I know first-hand the challenges families face. Education, Health and Care Plans can take months to process, and communication from the council is often slow. Parents are left chasing answers and feeling unheard.
I have experienced this in council meetings myself. I have tabled questions and received vague responses that did not address the real issues. Improving SEND services is not just about paperwork or deadlines. It is about ensuring children get the support they need to thrive and families feel listened to, respected, and supported.

Making Public Participation Count

I believe a council should listen and not silence its residents. People should be able to ask questions, attend meetings, and hold councillors to account without fear of being ignored or excluded. Some residents have been warned or even banned for simply speaking up. That is not the Redbridge I grew up in and it is not the Redbridge we deserve.
Public participation is a right and not a privilege. When residents speak, councillors must respond honestly and clearly. Only then can we have a council that reflects the needs of the community.

Working Together for Real Change

I cannot make change happen alone. This is about working with the people of Redbridge, parents, carers, young people, and neighbours, to listen to what matters and make decisions together.
I have met with so many local campaigners who care deeply about our borough. Together we can build a council that values transparency and ensures every voice counts.
Redbridge is more than policies or budgets. It is a community full of care, talent, and commitment. Growing up in Mayfield, I have seen its heart. I am determined that every resident knows they are heard and that together we can create a borough we are proud of!
